Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 15, 1906: “Quiet prevailed this morning in Springfield, Mo. Three hundred and 50 militiamen were sent there after a mob had hanged and burned three negroes Saturday night. Eight prisoners who escaped from the jail after a mob battered it have been recaptured. There is great bitterness about the mob violence but no arrests have been made of anyone responsible for the killings. : In its latest baseball outing, Kansas University beat College of Emporia 11-0.”
