KU’s Wissel, Hefferon win at track invite

? Kansas University’s Colby Wissel and Paul Hefferon claimed distance-event victories Friday, the first day of the Tom Botts Invitational.

Wissel won the 5,000 meters in 14:42.61, and KU’s Victor Chesang placed eighth in 15:45.74.

Hefferon won the 3,000 in 8:20.22. Teammates Matt French (fifth, 8:39.32), Patrick McGowan (sixth, 8:39.66), Chris Jones (eighth, 8:47.4) and Mike Putzke (nine, 9:01.43) also placed.

In the women’s 3,000, KU’s Alicia McGregor was sixth in 10:36.11. KU’s Christine Lathrop was eighth in 10:45.81, Bridget Moran finished 12th (10:54.03) and Hayley Harbert was 13th (10:55.22). Kansas’ Jonathan Edwards threw 171-feet, 5-inches in the javelin to place second, and Eric Fattig went 22-51â4 to finish second in the long jump. In women’s long jump, KU’s Shatoya Hill was fourth at 18-1.
