Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 14, 1906: “Special services in commemoration of Easter are planned tomorrow at most local churches and many have made elaborate preparations for the special event. Much special music and elaborate floral displays are on the agenda and it should be quite a festive occasion. : Kansas and Nebraska played baseball again and it ended up 5-5 after 12 innings. Kansas won the first game 4-2. Darkness forced an end to the heroic pitchers’ battle. There will be no games on Sunday. : Ever since the weather got better, the gas company has been working overtime with bigger crews to lay more pipe for service that many want and now cannot get. : There are many complaints about the poor roads that are dusty when dry and too messy when wet down. : The Rev. E.E. Stauffer and George Innes secured in a short time the money needed to pay the expenses of the Sunday School convention here in May. This speaks well for Lawrence.”
