Mets blast Nats in first inning

? Carlos Beltran, David Wright and Cliff Floyd homered in the first inning, and Carlos Delgado later tacked on a two-run shot, all off All-Star Livan Hernandez, starting the Mets on their way to a 13-4 victory over the Nationals on Thursday.

Victor Zambrano (1-0) allowed three runs in five innings in his first start of the season for the Mets, who’ve won six straight games.

The Mets finished with 16 hits, adding five runs when they sent 10 men to the plate in the seventh against reliever Joey Eischen.

Dodgers 13, Pirates 5

Pittsburgh – Cody Ross hit a grand slam and a three-run homer in successive at-bats.

Bill Mueller added a two-run double in the Dodgers’ five-run sixth inning, and Olmedo Saenz had a two-run homer among his three hits and drove in four runs. Saenz went 8-for-14 with two homers and seven RBIs as the teams split the four-game series.

Marlins 9, Padres 2

Miami – Dewon Brazelton gave up eight runs in four-plus innings and fell to 0-16 lifetime on the road.

Florida’s Mike Jacobs hit a three-run homer, his third.

Brewers 4, Cardinals 3, 11 innings

St. Louis – Carlos Lee hit a tiebreaking home run in the 11th to lift Milwaukee.

The Cardinals couldn’t overcome the first two-error game of center fielder Jim Edmonds’ career, which led to a pair of unearned runs.

Reds 8, Cubs 3

Chicago – Adam Dunn hit a solo homer, and Felipe Lopez and Austin Kearns added three-run shots for the Reds.

Giants 5-0, Astros 3-8

San Francisco – In game one, Moises Alou hit the 300th homer of his career, and Matt Morris allowed four hits and three runs in 72â3 innings for the Giants.

Barry Bonds drove in his first run of the season with a seventh-inning single and also had two deep flyouts.

In the second game, Roy Oswalt pitched 81â3 strong innings, and Lance Berkman hit his NL-leading fifth and sixth homers.

Phillies 7, Braves 6

Atlanta – Chase Utley hit his first two homers of the season and drove in four runs for the Phillies.

Jimmy Rollins, Bobby Abreu and Utley hit homers in the Phillies’ five-run first inning. Utley added another home run in the fifth inning to knock Kyle Davies (0-1) out of the game.

Rockies 5, Diamondbacks 3

Phoenix – Brad Hawpe homered for the fourth straight game, leading Colorado.

Hawpe’s home run streak matches the third-longest in club history, one short of the record shared by Larry Walker and Dante Bichette.

American League Twins 8, Athletics 2

Minneapolis – Torii Hunter hit a two-run homer, Kyle Lohse threw six innings for his first win, and the Twins finished a three-game sweep.

White Sox 13, Tigers 9

Detroit – Jim Thome homered in his fourth straight game to lead the White Sox. Tadahito Iguchi also homered and drove in three runs, and Alex Cintron had a pair of RBI triples for the White Sox.

Mariners 9, Indians 5

Cleveland – Ichiro Suzuki and Jose Lopez each hit two-run homers to help Seattle rally.

Blue Jays 8, Red Sox 6

Boston – Vernon Wells hit a grand slam in a six-run second, and Ted Lilly dominated Boston again, striking out 10 in seven innings.

Eric Hinske had three hits for the Blue Jays, who have won two in a row. Toronto outhit the Red Sox, 12-7.

Orioles 6, Devil Rays 5

St. Petersburg, Fla. – Melvin Mora hit a go-ahead two-run homer during a three-run ninth inning for Baltimore.

Baltimore starter Bruce Chen gave up five runs and five hits in 72â3 innings. Chris Ray (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth for the win.
