Temperatures climbing to upper 80s

Pull out your tank tops, shorts and flip-flops again – Lawrence’s temperature will reach nearly 90 degrees today, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s going to be a very warm afternoon,” Schack said. “Temperatures will be about eight degrees warmer than yesterday.”

Schack said today’s high will soar up to 89 degrees, which is a degree shy of the record for this date. The average high temperature for this date is 67 degrees. The record high was 90 degrees, set in 1936.

At 7 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 55 degrees, the humidity was 74 percent and winds were from the south at southeast at 6 mph, making the windchill 54 degrees.

Today’s morning low was 50 degrees. The average low temperature for this date is 45 degrees. The record low was 23 degrees, set in 1950.

Winds will be from the south at 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph and clear skies, she said.

Friday’s morning low will be 59 degrees, climbing to a high of 86 degrees by Friday afternoon, with a few clouds, she said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 59 degrees, climbing to a high of 83 degrees by Saturday afternoon. Skies will be partly cloudy, with the change for a storm on Saturday night, she said.
