Temperatures edging up into 80s

High 80s expected Thursday, Friday

You might want to get your beach wear ready to go – summer-like weather has moved into Lawrence, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“Temperatures will soar into the low 80s,” Schack said. Winds will be 5 to 10 mph, with mostly sunny skies, she said.

At 3:20 p.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 79 degrees, the humidity was 32 percent and winds were calm.

Schack said today’s temperatures will climb to 76 degrees by noon, reaching a high of 81 degrees. The average high temperature for this date is 66 degrees. The record high was 88 degrees, set in 1972. Today’s low temperature was 42 degrees. The average low temperature for this date is 44 degrees. The record low was 22 degrees, set in 1940.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to a low of 55 degrees by early Thursday morning, Schack said.

Temperatures will climb to a high of 88 degrees on Thursday, with south winds at 10 to 20 mph and mostly sunny skies, she said.

“Those are the warmest temperatures that we’ve seen since last fall,” Schack said.

Friday’s morning low will be 61 degrees, climbing to a high of 86 degrees by late Friday afternoon, she said. Friday’s skies will be partly cloudy, she said.
