Medical call leads to drug search

A medical emergency led to a drug bust last week in northern Lawrence, according to a police report released Monday.

Emergency workers were called to an apartment at Thursday in the 400 block of Wisconsin Street to respond to a 22-year-old woman possibly having a seizure, said Kim Murphree, a Lawrence Police spokeswoman. While there, a police officer spotted what appeared to be marijuana, as well as a spoon with a white, powdery substance.

The woman turned down medical treatment, but police pursued the case further by going to a judge and requesting a search warrant. They returned about 8:30 p.m., searched the home and seized suspected marijuana, cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to a report.

The items were sent to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation for testing, and no arrests had been made as of Monday. The 22-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man are suspected of possessing the drugs.
