ChiSox ruin day for Tigers

? Jim Thome and Joe Crede hit two-run homers, and Paul Konerko added a solo shot, leading the Chicago White Sox to a 5-3 victory Monday in the Detroit Tigers’ home opener.

The last time the White Sox played at Comerica Park on Sept. 29, they clinched the AL Central en route to their first World Series title since 1917.

Freddy Garcia (1-1) gave up three runs and five hits over six innings for the White Sox, who have won two straight after losing four in a row. Bobby Jenks pitched a perfect ninth for his second save.

Jeremy Bonderman (1-1) allowed four runs and six hits in seven innings for the Tigers, who have lost two straight following a 5-0 start under new manager Jim Leyland.

Angels 5, Rangers 2

Anaheim, Calif. – John Lackey (1-1) allowed three hits over seven innings, and Orlando Cabrera drove in the go-ahead run during the Angels’ three-run second inning. Francisco Rodriguez got his fourth save.

Orioles 6, Devil Rays 3

St. Petersburg, Fla. – Erik Bedard (2-0) scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings as Baltimore won in Tampa Bay’s home debut.
