Three Kansas University student groups on Thursday will stage "Die for Life," a demonstration to raise awareness of global humanitarian conflicts.

Members of Fighting Ignorance of Global Humanitarian Threats, KU for Uganda, KU UNICEF and others interested in the cause will lie on the lawn at Strong Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each student will represent a number of people killed in a humanitarian crisis somewhere in the world.

The demonstration is meant to raise awareness of crises such as those reported in the Darfur region of Sudan.

Marion,

This is Mark Skoglund, the president of KU FIGHT: Fighting Ignorance of Global Humanitarian Threats.

Regardless of one's political beliefs, the inaction that has been the response to the 3,800,000 that have died in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the 400,000 that have been massacred in Darfur, the 66,000 children that have been abducted in Uganda....is unacceptable. We know these conflicts are happening. We just refuse to act.

Furthermore, while there are certainly places where the debate you refer to could occur, I would hope that we could all agree that these conflicts we are specifically targeting demand attention and action.

If you have any questions or comments, I would definitely appreciate an email at mark.skoglund AT gmail.com.
