KU rowing tumbles in Kansas Cup

Kansas State retained the Kansas Cup with a 13-8 rowing victory over Kansas University on Saturday on the Kansas River at Burcham Park.

“Kansas State was really good competition,” Kansas head coach Rob Catloth said. “They are ahead of us competitively, with races at Texas and San Diego.”

KU claimed its only victory in the First Varsity Eight race, which Kansas’ team of coxswain Ardis Johnson, team captain Jennifer Ebel, Lindsey Miles, Kris Lazar, Tiffany Jeffers, Alexis Boston, Kara Boston, LlynnAnn Laugesen and Tayler Eldridge won in 6:14.8. K-State was 2.1 seconds behind.

KU’s Second Varsity Eight finished 9.2 seconds behind the K-State entry.

In the Varsity Four, KU finished just a half-second behind Kansas State (7:19.9) at 7:20.4. Kansas State also took the Novice Eight in a time of 6:32.6 to top three Kansas boats.

The Jayhawks will travel Friday to Oak Ridge, Tenn., to compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Assn. Championship.
