Softball sweeps Arkansas

? A home run by Stevie Crisosto and three hits from Destiny Frankenstein helped Kansas University’s softball team sweep Arkansas, 2-1 and 1-0, on Wednesday at the Lady ‘Back Yard

Frankenstein led off the fifth inning of the first game with a base hit to left, and Crisosto followed with a homer to left, her second of the season, to give KU a 2-1 lead that held up.

Serena Settlemier (12-4) gave up six hits, struck out five and walked two for the complete-game win, her third straight victory. Nettie Fierros had two of the Jayhawks’ five hits.

In the nightcap, the Jayhawks scored their lone run in the top of the seventh.

Frankenstein led off with a single to right-center and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Val Chapple. With one out, Kassie Humphreys reached on an error that allowed Frankenstein to score from second and give KU the lead.

Humphreys held the Lady ‘Backs scoreless through seven complete innings, allowing just one hit – an infield single. Humphreys (8-12) also totaled eight strikeouts and walked three in the victory.

KU improved to 20-18 overall, while UA fell to 17-23.

Kansas will travel to Baylor for a Saturday-Sunday set.
