Old home town - 40 years ago today

Secretaries and custodians in the Lawrence school system were given 8.1 and 9.1 percent salary increases for the coming year.

Bill Lienhard, local banker and former KU and Olympic basketball star, was named the 1955 United Fund drive chairman.

Gov. William Avery declared the next 30 days Kansas University Centennial Month.

Local churches were making plans for unified activities to correlate Good Friday observances.
