Temperatures swinging into the 60s

Chance for thunderstorms Wednesday

Warm temperatures and sunny skies are on tap for the Lawrence area today, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s a glorious morning,” Schack said. “We’re heading up to 67 degrees.”

At 7:30 a.m., skies were clear at Lawrence Municipal Airport, the temperature was 31 degrees, the humidity was 92 percent and winds were calm. The average low for this date is 42 degrees. The record low was 21 degrees, set in 1920.

“Patchy fog is possible this morning throughout the area” she said.

Schack said Lawrence’s temperature should start climbing into the 60s after the noon hour. The average high for this date is 64 degrees. The record high was 91 degrees, set in 1942.

Winds will be from the south at 5-15 mph, Schack said

Overnight, temperatures will fall to 49 degrees, with partly cloudy skies by early Wednesday morning, she said.

More clouds will move in on Wednesday and the high temperature will climb to 73 degrees, with a chance of thunderstorms in the middle of the day, Schack said. Winds will be from the southeast at 8 to 18 mph.

Thursday’s morning low will be 55 degrees. The temperature will climb to 80 degrees Thursday afternoon, with a chance for thunderstorms.
