Tigers recall Tata to replace Jones
Kansas City, Mo. ? On the eve of their opener against Kansas City, the Detroit Tigers recalled right-hander Jordan Tata from Double-A Erie on Sunday to replace reliever Todd Jones, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Jones, a right-hander who turns 38 on April 24, pulled a hamstring in Saturday’s 4-3 exhibition victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Fernando Rodney, who was 2-3 with a 2.86 ERA and nine saves in 39 games last year, is expected to fill in as the Tigers’ closer.
