Sunny skies ahead for afternoon

Lawrence was starting out cloudy this morning. But eventually you’ll need some sunglasses.

“During the afternoon, the clouds break up and the sun returns,” says Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

At 7:20 a.m., Lawrence’s skies were overcast, the temperature was 48 degrees, the humidity was 77 percent and winds were from the northwest at 21 mph, making the windchill 42 degrees.

The average low temperature for this date is 42 degrees. The record low was 13 degrees in 1975.

This morning’s temperatures will stay in the 50s, Sayers said.

Today’s afternoon high will climb to 61 degrees, Sayers said. Winds will be from the west at 10 to 20 mph, he said. The average high temperature for this date is 64 degrees. The record high was 86 degrees, set in 1976.

“We stay dry for today and we stay dry for tonight,” he said.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 34 degrees by early Tuesday morning, Sayers said. Tuesday’s high will be 65 degrees, with winds at 10 to 15 mph, he said.

Wednesday morning brings a slight chance of rain, he said. Wednesday’s morning low will be 49 degrees, with Wedensday’s high climbing to 78 degrees, he said.
