Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 3, 1906: “Councilman Bond has a proposition which ought to pass the city council. He wants to have east and west streets denominated by numbers instead of by names. The current system of street nomenclature is confusing to citizens and absolutely bewildering to strangers. : The annual Festival of Music, the greatest musical event of the year, will begin Friday in Fraternal Aid Hall. There will be a big chorus and orchestra featuring the best talent we have, including celebrated soloists, the university glee club and the Inness Orchestral Band. : The city council last night took action to build a new jail and it is time to do away with the disgraceful conditions that now exist.”
