After two gut-wrenching losses last weekend at Texas A&M, Kansas University’s softball team will try to bounce back in Big 12 Conference competition this weekend at Arrocha Ballpark.

The Jayhawks, who suffered back-to-back walk-off one-run losses to the Aggies, will meet Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. today and again at 1 p.m. Sunday.

KU coach Tracy Bunge is expected to use Serena Settlemier (10-4, 1.44 earned-run average) in the circle today and junior Kassie Humphreys (7-10, 1.73 ERA) in Sunday’s game.

Settlemier has also been the Jayhawks’ most productive hitter. The fifth-year senior from Kelso, Wash., leads the team in batting average (.337), runs (24), home runs (15) and RBI (37). Her 15 homers, already a school single-season record, lead the Big 12.

Second baseman Jessica Moppin and shortstop Destiny Frankenstein, both seniors, are batting .323 and .322. Kansas leads the league with 37 home runs, but the team batting average of 2.48 ranks ninth in the 10-team conference (Colorado and Kansas State don’t field teams).

Oklahoma State (15-15) began the season with a 3-10 record, but the Cowgirls have rallied to win 12 of their last 17. OSU is 1-1 in conference play. Kansas is 0-2 in the league and 17-16 overall.
