Pfc. Don Carbaugh has completed an accelerated course in radio communication technology at the Marine Corps Communication and Electronics School in Palm Springs, Calif. He learned radio etiquette, wiring techniques and radio technology. He practiced radio wiring drills and simulated communication drills. He is now classified as a mobile multichannel radio operator. Carbaugh will be on leave in Lawrence through the end of the month, then will report to the Marine Base in Cherry Point, N.C., for his next assignment. Carbaugh is a 2004 Lawrence High School graduate and the son of Gina Bailey-Carbaugh, Lawrence, and Jim Carbaugh, North Fort Myers, Fla. Carbaugh can be contacted at DRCarbaugh@aol.com.

Army Reserve Pvt. Alex Truong has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Truong, a 2002 Lawrence High School graduate, is the son of Tinh Quan Truong, Lawrence.
