Eric and Danielle Price, Baldwin, announce the birth of their daughter, Cydnee Kay Elizabeth Price, born March 21, 2006, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Maternal grandparents are Jan and Mark Shuck, Baldwin. Paternal grandparents are Cindy and Terry Price, Kansas City, Kan. Great-grandparents are Bill and Rexanna Sanders, Lawrence; Warren and Elsie Shuck, Baldwin; and Lester and Frances Clauer, Lenexa. Great-great-grandmothers are Helen Sanders, Eureka, and Helen Buffington, Ottawa.

Ashley Coffman, Lawrence, is a member of the Bethany College Chamber Choir, which performed Thursday at the college, in Lindsborg. She also is a member of the Bethany Oratorio Society, and will perform as a chorus member in “Messiah” and “St. Matthew Passion” on April 9, 14 and 16.

Alden Haugh, Lawrence, was initiated into the Sigma Gamma Chapter of Kappa Delta Sorority at Kansas State University during the fall 2005 semester.

Bret Vannicola, Lecompton, made the dean’s list for the fall 2005 semester at Fort Scott Community College by receiving a 4.0 grade-point average. He will be inducted into the Alpha Theta Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society on Sunday. Bret is the son of Phillip and Gayle Vannicola, Lecompton.

Baker University’s dance and cheer squads will compete at the National Cheerleaders Assn. national dance and cheer competition Wednesday through April 9 at Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Members of Baker’s dance team are Lindsay Friesen, Susan Chandler, Erin Edwards, Danielle Dunham, Kate Hess, Katie Potteiger, Mandy King, Kendra Morrison, Stephanie Allen, Michelle Watts and Ashley Houchin.

Members of Baker’s cheer squad are Lindsey White, Marlena Richardson, Pam Lasley, Brittany Lob, Allyssa King, Dominique Adkins, Jess Armstrong, Jeremy Webb, Jessica Dillon, Sydney Raskin, Lauren Gilges, Darcey Nance, Emilie Laky, Kala Scott, Jordann Johnson, Alison Werle, Travis Viehweg, Chad Cross and Justin Lake.

Francesca “Frankie” Jarrow, a junior at Veritas Christian School, has been chosen for entry into the Theological Foundations for Youth summer study program sponsored by The Reformed Presbyterian Church in America. During July, Frankie will study theology and church history with seminary professors until the final week when she will participate in service projects. Host of the program is the Reformed Seminary in Pittsburgh.

Only 25 students are chosen each year. As one of the top 10 recipients, Frankie has received a full tuition-and-travel scholarship.

As a student at Veritas, Frankie’s activities include basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, Student Council and Veritas Teen Leadership Seminar. She is the daughter of Jim and Tamara Jarrow, Lawrence.

The family of Gene and JoAnn Van Hoesen, Lawrence, is requesting a card shower for the couple’s 60th wedding anniversary, which is April 10. A reception for the couple will be June 11 at the Union Pacific Depot in North Lawrence.

Elsie Hemphill will celebrate her 85th birthday with a reception for family and friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in Fellowship Hall at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence.

She was born March 30, 1921, in Gridley. She married Thornton A. Hemphill on July 7, 1945, in Norfolk, Va.

Hosts for the reception will be her children, Richard and Jill Hemphill, De Soto; Roger and Sandy Hemphill, Overland Park; and David and Carlotta Hemphill, Lawrence. Cards may be sent to Elsie at 2740 Chipperfield Road, Lawrence 66047.

Four Washburn University students from the Lawrence area are participants in the production of the opera “The Marriage of Figaro,” which will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and April 8 in White Concert Hall at Washburn University. They are William Brubaker, Sara Emde and Amanda Mayo, all of Lawrence; and Kasandra Williams, Perry.

Brubaker is the principal bassoon in the Washburn Opera Orchestra. He is a sophomore majoring in music performance with a concentration in instrumental performance with brass, string, percussion and woodwind.

Emde is the principal flute in the Washburn Opera Orchestra. She is a senior majoring in music performance with a concentration in instrumental performance with brass, string, percussion and woodwind.

Mayo plays the flute in the Washburn Opera Orchestra. She is a freshman majoring in music education with a concentration in instrumental music.

Williams portrays Barbarina as a member of the cast. She is a sophomore majoring in music education with a concentration in vocal music.

Sarah Dinsdale, Lawrence, is a member of the Sterling College Concert Choir, which toured Kansas and Colorado on March 17-21. Dinsdale is a senior at Sterling College and the daughter of Robert and Katherine Dinsdale.

Free State High School senior Sally Campbell has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award. The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was presented by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. Campbell is a volunteer for the Lawrence Youth Symphony and reads to elementary school children. She participated in Locks of Love and served as an elf for the Lawrence Arts Center Holiday Bazaar.

Nick Weiser, Dighton, a Kansas University sophomore, was named the seventh recipient of the Dick Wright Jazz Award. He received the award March 4 during the KU Jazz Festival. Nick, who maintains a 4.0 grade-point average, is a student in the Jazz Studies Program, majoring in piano performance. He is studying classical piano and jazz piano. He is a pianist with the KU Jazz Ensemble I, Jazz Combo I and Jazz Singers. Nick is an accompanist at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He performs for the Kansas Honors Program, The Chancellors Club and is music coordinator for Claridge Court in Prairie Village.

Jamie Stinson, a student at Shawnee Heights High School, was named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. Jamie is the daughter of Jim and Maureen Stinson, Topeka, and the granddaughter of Rusty Moore, Lawrence.
