El Salvador native gets probation for stabbing

A former Chinese-buffet employee from El Salvador has been ordered to probation for stabbing his roommate during a dispute at their apartment in June.

Celedonio R. Castro received 12 months of probation Wednesday for aggravated battery, but he remains in the Douglas County Jail at the request of federal immigration authorities, who are seeking to deport him because they allege he’s in the country illegally.

Castro, age 27 at the time of his arrest, is a former employee of Jin Shan Buffet at 23rd and Harper Streets.

He entered a plea to stabbing his roommate after a June 1 altercation at their apartment. A customer at Walgreens at 23rd and Louisiana streets called police after finding the victim bleeding in the parking lot.

Police said the man didn’t want to get police involved and drove to the store to buy bandages.
