Steve Abney, Kansas University’s pitching coach for the last three years, has resigned to become the mid-plains area scouting coordinator for the Cleveland Indians.

Abney had been a scout for the Indians when he joined new KU coach Ritch Price’s staff in 2003. A 1981 graduate of Fresno State, Abney spent three seasons as a player in the San Diego Padres organization.

“His new position with the Indians is an opportunity of a lifetime,” Price said. “We’re thrilled for Steve and his family.”

No replacement has been named.
