Charges have been filed against a 30-year-old man in connection with the rape of a 59-year-old woman more than a year ago at a southwest Lawrence apartment complex.

The defendant, a Lawrence resident, was booked into the Douglas County Jail during the weekend. Sheriff’s officials said he was brought to the jail after being released from the Shawnee County Jail in a different matter.

The man faces charges including rape and aggravated burglary.

The woman told police she’d left her door unlocked the morning of Aug. 31, 2004, and that he entered her apartment about 7:30 a.m. Lawrence Police identified the man during a neighborhood canvass.
