Seabury volleyball comes up empty

? Seabury Academy’s volleyball squad went 0-4 at the Olpe Invitational on Saturday but made some noise against tournament champion Marais des Cygnes.

“We were the only team to win a match against them,” Seabury coach Craig Friedrichsen said. “I think it took so much emotion, I think the kids were just kind of wiped out after that.

“After losing our first match, we just couldn’t get things turned around.”

Seabury fell to Marais des Cygnes, 25-20, 20-25, 25-16; Peabody-Burns, 25-17, 25-11; Marmaton Valley, 25-18, 25-14; and Olpe, 25-18, 25-18.

But Friedrichsen said there were some standout individual performances.

“Laura Hoffmann, our senior setter, played every minute of every game,” he said.

In the Marais des Cygnes game, senior Lindsey Ahlen had 12 kills and was 13-for-13 serving.

Seabury (12-12) will play at home Oct. 11 against Kansas City Sumner and Olathe Christian.
