Local girls finish atop Seaman leaderboard

Local runners turned in a 1-2-3 finish to highlight the girls race Saturday at the Seaman Invitational cross country meet.

Free State’s Alysha Valencia broke the tape in 11 minutes, 50 seconds, to win the event, with Lawrence High’s Kelly Renfro next at 11:57 and Free State’s Kyra Kilwein crossing the line just one second later.

Renfro’s strong showing helped the Lions finish second with 75 points, while the Firebirds rode their 1-3 individual honors to a third-place showing with 92.

Seaman won the girls team race with 40 points.

LHS also took home runner-up honors in the boys race, scoring 67 points to fall just short of team winner Olathe East (63).

Free State finished fourth in the team standings, scoring 104 points.

Dylan Hedges led the Lions, finishing third in 17:20.

M.J. Hassaballa topped the Firebirds with a ninth-place showing in 18:06.
