‘Native Voices’ video to debut at exhibition

The Lawrence Indian Arts Show will present the video debut of “Native Voices – Secret History” at 7 p.m. today at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H.

“Native Voices” was created by New York theater artist Ping Chong as part of his ongoing Secret History series of community-specific, oral history theater projects examining the lives of people living between cultures. The production is based on the stories of five American Indians living in Lawrence, who performed the play when it premiered at the Lied Center in April.

Tickets to the video screening are $5 (free to Haskell and Kansas University students with student ID) and may be purchased at the arts center. After the presentation, several of the cast members will be on hand for a question-and-answer session with the audience.

“Native Voices” was a collaboration between the Lied Center and Haskell Indian Nations University.
