Bombings in eastern Pakistan kill 6, wound 26

? Two bombs exploded about 90 minutes apart Thursday in the eastern Pakistan city of Lahore, leaving six people dead and more than two dozen wounded, police said.

Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed condemned the blasts, which he said were carried out by “enemies of Pakistan.” There was no immediate claim of responsibility and security officials said they were investigating.

The first bomb was planted under the seat of a bicycle and exploded near a crowded park, killing one person and injuring nine, three seriously, police said.

About 90 minutes later, a second bomb went off outside a jewelry shop in a commercial district, killing five and wounding 17, police said.

“It seems the same people” are behind both attacks, said Mobin Ahmed, security police chief for Lahore without saying who might have been behind it or their motive.

The attacks occurred days after al-Qaida deputy chief Ayman al-Zawahri claimed responsibility for the July 7 London bombings and criticized Pakistan for supporting Washington in its war on terror in Afghanistan.
