Louisburg (3-0) at Baldwin (2-1)

Last week’s results: Louisburg beat Ottawa, 42-15; Baldwin beat Wellsville, 34-6

Last year’s meeting: Louisburg won, 13-12

Quick hits: Louisburg has shown signs of being a title favorite in the Frontier League after racking up 40-plus points in each of the last two weeks, including a convincing win last Friday over a previously unbeaten Ottawa squad. Baldwin has already seen an explosive offense in its Week 2 loss to Paola, and will try to counter with its own high-octane attack sparked by quarterback Jeremy Wright.

Wellsville (1-2) at De Soto (3-0)

Last week’s results: Wellsville lost to Baldwin, 34-6; De Soto beat Central Heights, 22-19

Last year’s meeting: De Soto won, 25-0

Quick hits: De Soto again showed a knack for the big play in Week 3, using Tyler Farmer’s second kickoff return this season for a touchdown and a 30-yard scoring run by Dustin Ester in the fourth quarter to hold off Central Heights. Wellsville must find a way to stop those big plays from happening and also take care of the football after committing four turnovers in the first half alone in last week’s loss to Baldwin.

Eudora (3-0) at Anderson County (1-2)

Last week’s results: Eudora beat Prairie View, 36-6; Anderson County lost to Perry-Lecompton, 35-8

Last year’s meeting: Eudora won, 49-12

Quick hits: Despite a perfect 3-0 mark, Eudora coach Gregg Webb has expressed some concerns about his team’s difficulties in putting together four solid quarters of football so far this season. The Cardinals have shown some signs of explosiveness on offense, which may come in handy against an Anderson County squad that had trouble stopping Perry-Lecompton on the ground last week.

McLouth (3-0) at Jefferson North (1-2)

Last week’s results: McLouth beat Doniphan West 27-7; Jefferson North beat Jackson Heights, 8-6

Last year’s meeting: Jefferson County North won, 28-0

Quick hits: McLouth saw last season’s eye-opening 3-0 start come to an end in this matchup a year ago, a setback that led the Bulldogs to five losses in the last six games. However, McLouth enters this year’s showdown with the second-best scoring offense (43.7 ppg) and defense (4.3) in the Delaware Valley League (43.7 ppg). Meanwhile, Jefferson County North has been outscored 79-29 through three games.

Tonganoxie (2-1) at Mill Valley (2-1)

Last week’s results: Tonganoxie beat Kansas City Piper, 32-7; Mill Valley beat Basehor-Linwood, 18-0

Last year’s meeting: Mill Valley won, 21-14

Quick hits: After struggling for 21â2 games to find its offensive footing, Tonganoxie finally busted out with 25 points in the second half of last week’s victory over Piper. The Chieftains will face a Mill Valley defense that made big strides in last week’s shutout victory after allowing an average of 22.5 ppg while splitting its opening two games.

Jackson Heights (1-2) at Oskaloosa (1-2)

Last week’s results: Jackson Heights lost to Jefferson North, 8-6; Oskaloosa lost to Valley Falls, 42-24

Last year’s meeting: Jackson Heights won, 49-6

Quick hits: Having shown signs of life on the offensive side of the football the last two weeks, Oskaloosa looks to get back to .500 against a Jackson Heights squad that’s struggled in all phases of the game so far in 2005. The Bears must avoid falling behind early and shore up their rushing defense after allowing Valley Falls quarterback Jordan Sloop to run wild last week.

Ottawa (2-1) at Prairie View (0-3)

Last week’s results: Ottawa lost to Louisburg, 42-15; Prairie View lost to Eudora, 36-6

Last year’s meeting: Ottawa won, 34-6

Quick hits: Ottawa fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with last week’s blowout loss, but may have a chance to lick its wounds against a Prairie View squad that’s suffered resounding setbacks at the hands of fellow area schools De Soto and Eudora the last two weeks.

Veritas Christian (3-0) at Wichita Trinity (2-1)

Last week’s results: Veritas Christian beat St. Joseph (Mo.) Christian, 34-26; lost 8-7 to St. Marys Academy

Last year’s meeting: Veritas Christian won, 46-32

Quick hits: After a pair of lopsided wins to open the 2005 campaign, Veritas Christian showed it could grind out a victory – yes, 34 points in grinding it out in 8-man football – last week against St. Joseph. Next up is a senior-laden Wichita Trinity squad that battled perennial powerhouse St. Marys Academy to the wire last week and is looking for payback after last season’s loss in Lawrence.
