Sunny, warm afternoon ahead

Don’t forget your sunglasses — after the morning fog burns off, bright, clear skies are in the forecast for the next to the last day of summer, says Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist.

“It will be all sunshine,” Reith said. “It’s going to be a beautiful day. Get outside and enjoy it.”

At 7:15 a.m., the temperature in Lawrence was 65 degrees, with a humidity of 93 percent and calm conditions. Reith said conditions were foggy east of Lawrence heading into the Kansas City area. The National Weather Service says patchy fog is expected through 9 a.m.

“If you’re heading out to work, take your time,” Reith said.

He said today’s high will reach 87 degrees by late afternoon.

There’s a slight chance of thunderstorms late tonight, he said.

“And we might see a few thunderstorms come rumbling through tomorrow morning,” Reith said. The National Weather Service says there’s a 20 percent chance of rain tonight through early Wednesday afternoon. .

Wednesday morning’s temperature is expected to be 64 degrees, with Wednesday’s high climbing to 89.

Fall arrives on Thursday, but summer-like temperatures persist, Reith said. Thursday’s morning low will be 65 degrees, with Thursday’s high climbing to 88 degrees.
