Thunderstorms rumble through city

There’s no need for an umbrella anymore this afternoon.

“At least for us in Lawrence,” says Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

A line of thunderstorms passed through Lawrence between 3:15 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., bringing lightning, thunder, some pea-sized hail and about three-tenths of an inch of rain.

“They are now exiting and we look to stay dry throughout the remainder of the evening,” Sayers said.

Sayers said there were some reports of pea-sized hail around the Lawrence area, he said.

“We didn’t get any in the downtown,” he said.

The thunderstorm helped to cool off temperatures a bit.

“We’re sitting in the upper 70s now,” Sayers said about 3:45 p.m. “We’ll hover around 80 for the late afternoon and evening.”

Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 62 by early Tuesday morning, with clear skies and winds out of the southeast at 5 to 10 mph, he said. Tuesday’s high will be 86 degrees.

“We’ll have sunshine throughout the day,” Sayers said.

Wednesday’s morning temperature will be 63 degrees, he said. The high temperature will climb to 89 on Wednesday afternoon, with a slight chance for storms, she said.
