Seabury claims share of title

? Seabury Academy dropped its first match, but rebounded to tie for first place Saturday in the Hartford round-robin volleyball tournament.

Seabury (10-8) lost to Hartford, 25-17, 25-20, before defeating South Coffey County, 25-23, 25-13, Royal Valley, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, and Northern Heights, 13-25, 25-19, 25-17.

“This is a tough tournament for us, because they’re all bigger schools,” Seabury coach Craig Friedrichsen said.

Lindsey Ahlen had 37 kills, 10 blocks and 10 services aces, Molly Thurman had 22 kills and nine blocks, Laura Hoffmann had 43 sets for kills, no errors and was 34-for-35 serving, and Gabrielle Dillon was 35-for-37 serving with 11 aces, including two aces on game points.

“This was just a fantastic day,” Friedrichsen. “There were a lot of smiles at the end of the day.”
