Kickoff for all games is 7 p.m.

De Soto (2-0) at Central Heights (2-0)

Last week’s results: De Soto beat Prairie View, 34-12; Central Heights beat Valley Heights, 28-14

Last year’s meeting: De Soto won, 27-3

Quick hits: De Soto has shown a knack for the big play during the opening two weeks of the season, using three scoring plays of 30 yards or more in Friday’s victory over Prairie View. However, Wildcats coach Brad Scott seeks greater consistency against a Central Heights squad that features its own explosive offense, headlined by quarterback Gus Wuertz and receiver Tony Wilson, the top statistical combo in the Frontier League.

Eudora (2-0) at Prairie View (0-2)

Last week’s results: Eudora beat Osawatomie, 24-22; Prairie View lost to De Soto, 34-12

Last year’s meeting: Eudora won, 54-0

Quick hits: Eudora coach Gregg Webb has to be pleased with the resiliency his team has shown in the early season, as the Cardinals pulled out their second straight close victory last week. Now comes an opportunity to play the rout card against a Prairie View team that was no match last year and has struggled at the outset of the 2005 campaign.

Doniphan West (2-0) at McLouth (2-0)

Last week’s results: Doniphan West beat Troy, 12-7; McLouth beat Wathena, 53-6

Last year’s meeting: McLouth won, 24-7

Quick hits: After back-to-back lopsided wins, McLouth finds itself in a battle for early supremacy in the Delaware Valley League. Doniphan West should expect to see a steady diet of Bulldogs tailback Kevin Stewart, who already has rushed for nine touchdowns this season.

Basehor-Linwood (1-1) at Mill Valley (1-1)

Last week’s results: Basehor-Linwood lost to Perry-Lecompton, 10-0; Mill Valley beat Lansing, 28-21

Last year’s meeting: Mill Valley won, 35-6

Quick hits: It has been a tale of two weeks for Mill Valley. After struggling in a lopsided loss to Kansas City Turner in their home opener, the Jaguars turned around and surprised Lansing on the Lions’ home turf last week. Next up is a Basehor-Linwood squad that hung tough last week against Perry-Lecompton.

Oskaloosa (1-1) at Valley Falls (1-1)

Last week’s results: Oskaloosa beat Jefferson County North, 22-21; Valley Falls beat Horton, 26-16

Last year’s meeting: Valley Falls won, 28-0

Quick hits: Oskaloosa looks to make it two straight victories – a feat it hasn’t accomplished since the 2001 season – after last week’s triumph over Jefferson County North that ended a 14-game losing streak. A key for the Bears will be consistent play by their inexperienced, sophomore-laden backfield against a Valley Falls defense that’s giving up 21.5 points per game.

Ottawa (2-0) at Louisburg (2-0)

Last week’s results: Ottawa beat Kansas City Turner, 14-6; Louisburg beat Spring Hill, 41-28

Last year’s meeting: Louisburg won, 21-12

Quick hits: Ottawa will be looking to avoid a repeat of last season, when it opened with two straight victories before a loss to Louisburg sent the Cyclones on a downward spiral in which they lost five of their final seven games.

Perry-Lecompton (2-0) at Anderson County (1-1)

Last week’s results: Perry-Lecompton beat Basehor-Linwood, 10-0; Anderson County lost to Wellsville, 28-14

Last year’s meeting: Anderson County won, 40-21

Quick hits: The good news for Perry-Lecompton? A 2-0 start to open the season, with both victories coming on the road via shutouts. The bad news? The Kaws find themselves on the road again in Week 3, albeit against an Anderson County squad that struggled to stop the run last week. A victory would equal Perry-Lecompton’s victory total from a year ago before the Kaws ever set foot on their home soil.

Lansing (1-1) at Santa Fe Trail (1-1)

Last week’s results: Lansing lost to Mill Valley, 28-21; Santa Fe Trail beat Leavenworth Immaculata, 41-20

Last year’s meeting: Lansing won, 10-0

Quick hits: Santa Fe Trail turned in its second straight strong offensive performance last week, helping to ease the concerns Chargers coach Dave Watkins carried in to the season. Next up is a Lansing squad that unexpectedly sputtered on defense last week after a strong opener against Tonganoxie.

Kansas City Piper (1-1) at Tonganoxie (1-1)

Last week’s results: Kansas City Piper lost to Bonner Springs, 26-21; Tonganoxie beat Kansas City Ward, 7-0

Last year’s meeting: Tonganoxie won, 17-14

Quick hits: Fans will be treated to a classic clash in styles tonight at Tonganoxie’s home opener. The Chieftains are still looking to get their vaunted running game in gear after a pair of subpar performances to open the 2005 season. Meanwhile, the Tonganoxie defense will face a stiff challenge while trying to slow down Piper’s pass-happy attack.

St. Joseph (Mo.) Christian (1-1) at Veritas Christian (2-0)

Last week’s results: St. Joseph Christian lost to Elmwood (Kan.), 26-20; Vertias Christian beat Topeka Cair Paravel, 44-8

Last year’s meeting: St. Joseph Christian won, 58-22

Quick hits: Last season’s meeting between these two schools resulted in the first loss for Veritas’ new eight-man program. The Eagles will look to avenge that outcome behind its potent two-headed rushing attack featuring sophomore Marcus Holman and senior Jesse Schultz.
