Fall-like weather cools off Lawrence

You can leave your umbrella at home today. But you might want to break out some long sleeves, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s a dry start, with clouds thickening up,” Schack said. “It feels kind of cool out there. . . . It’s a very fall-like day.”

At 8 a.m., the temperature at Lawrence Municipal Airport was 59 degrees, the humidity was 90 percent and winds were north-northwest at 8 mph.

“I’m not too concerned about getting wet today, but I do think we’ll see an increase in clouds. The clouds, along with northeast winds will keep our temperatures below average,” Schack said.

Today’s high is expected to reach only 76 degrees. The average high for this date is 82 degrees, she said. Winds will be from the north-northeast at 5 to 10 mph.

Schack said clouds were expected to increase in Lawrence later tonight and overnight into Thursday morning.

“That does give us just the isolated chance of a thunderstorm late tonight into early Thursday morning,” Schack said.

Thursday morning’s low temperature will be 56 degrees. Thursday’s high will be 76 degrees by late afternoon, she said.

More cooler-than-normal weather is expected on Friday, with the morning low starting at 54 degrees, climbing to 80 for Friday afternoon, Schack said. Skies are expected to be clear.
