Thunderstorms moving in

Keep your rain gear handy. The chances for thunderstorms increase through the morning into the afternoon as a cold front moves through, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“There’s a chance for a late morning thunderstorm and a better chance for a thunderstorm this afternoon,” Schack said. “You might want to grab an umbrella.”

The National Storm Prediction Center has put the Lawrence area in a slight chance for severe weather for this afternoon, “the main threat being large hail and gusty winds.” Schack said.

At 9 a.m., weather radar showed there were some thunderstorms south and west Lawrence, Schack said. That line of morning storms appeared to be moving into Lawrence during the next hour, she said.

Today’s high will reach 87, with south winds 5-12 mph.

The chance for thunderstorms continues through the evening, then drops off early Wednesday morning, she said.

Wednesday’s morning low temperature will be 60 degrees, with Wednesday’s high climbing to 78 degrees, with northeast winds at 8 to 15 mph.

Thursday’s morning low will be 56 degrees. Thursday’s afternoon high will climb to 80 degrees.
