County Road 458 near Clinton Lake to close

A portion of County Road 458 will be closed for improvement beginning Thursday.

The road will be closed about three miles west of U.S. Highway 59 to what is known as Clinton Dam road. Construction is to improve the 15-mph curve at the intersection of East 1000 and North 1200 roads so it can handle vehicles traveling at faster speeds. Six-foot-wide paved shoulders also will be added.

Detour signs will be in place and follow U.S. 59, Kansas Highway 10 and the Clinton Dam road. The Eagle Bend golf course and the Clinton Lake Model Airplane Area must be accessed from the north on East 902 Road, also known as Clinton Lake Lower Dam Road, during the project.

Most of the construction should be completed by early December, officials said.

The project is being financed entirely by Douglas County through its Capital Improvement Program. LRM Industries was awarded the contract for construction with a bid of $503,836.
