Breezy, warm start to the week

Strong storms, cooler weather moving in Tuesday

Lawrence will see some clouds, but the city should escape thunderstorms rumbling this morning across Kansas, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“Nothing is heading our way. It will all stay off to the west and north of us,” Schack said.

At 7:30 a.m., the temperature was 71 degrees, the humidity level was 87 percent and winds were east to southeast at 3 mph.

Schack’s forecast for today is for the clouds to begin breaking up this afternoon, bringing in sunshine and sending the high temperature up to 90 degrees. Schack also predicts breezy conditions, with southerly winds 10 to 20 mph, gusting as high as 25 mph.

Overnight, breezy conditions will continue, with southerly winds 8 to 15 mph. The temperature will drop to a low of 66 by early Tuesday morning, Schack said.

“Thunderstorms erupt to the north of us tonight,” she said.

On Tuesday, a cold front will arrive in the afternoon into the evening, Schack said.

“We could see a few strong storms tomorrow as that front arrives,” she said.

Tuesday’s high will be 87 degrees.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 60, with the high reaching 80 degrees.

“There’s still a chance for an afternoon storm on Wednesday,” Schack said.
