Flags ordered lowered to half-staff until Sept. 20

Flags on federal and state buildings will fly at half-staff until Sept. 20 to honor William H. Rehnquist, former chief justice of the United States, who died Sept. 3, and Hurricane Katrina victims.

President George W. Bush gave the order Sunday putting flags at half-staff until sundown Tuesday to honor Rehnquist. Also on Sunday, Bush ordered federal flags flown at half-staff until sunset Sept. 20 to honor victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius this week also ordered flags to half-staff on state buildings to honor Rehnquist until Tuesday and until Sept. 20 to honor hurricane victims.
