Hot summer weather hanging around

Clear and muggy conditions expected this evening

You can put your umbrella away — sunny skies, warm temperatures and breezy conditions are on tap for the next few days, says Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s looking like plenty of sunshine, not only for today, but for the weekend as well,” Reith said. “We should warm into the lower 90s today.”

At 8:15 a.m., the temperature was 67 degrees, the humidity was 91 percent and winds were calm. There was some fog in the area, with visibility at Lawrence Municipal Airport at three miles.

Reith said today’s high will reach 91 degrees by late afternoon, with southwest winds 8 to 12 mph.

Overnight, conditions will be clear but muggy, with the temperature dropping to a low of 69 degrees by early Saturday morning. It will also be breezy on Saturday, Reith said.

“We could see wind gusts upwards of 20 to 25 mph tomorrow, maybe gusting as high as 30 mph” he said.

Saturday’s high will climb to 92 degrees.

If you’re heading out to the Kansas University football game, which begins at 6 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium, you’ll find sunny skies with temperatures in the mid 80s, Reith said.

Sunday’s morning low temperature will be 69 degrees, with the high hitting 91 by Sunday afternoon, he said.
