It will be another month before a judge decides whether a Lawrence man should lose his probation and go to prison for his role in the statutory rape of an intoxicated 13-year-old girl.

Michael J. Rayton, 29, made a brief court appearance Thursday in District Court, where Judge Paula Martin scheduled a probation-violation hearing for Oct. 7.

Martin also denied Rayton’s request for a bond reduction.

He’s being held in the Douglas County Jail with bond set at $15,000.

Rayton was one of three men charged in the June 2003 rape who ultimately received a lightened sentence of probation instead of prison from Judge Martin. Rayton was initially charged with rape but entered a plea to aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

He was arrested last week and charged with a lengthy list of probation violations, including drinking alcohol, violating curfew and frequenting a place where a relative of the victim works.
