Kickoff for all games is 7 p.m.

Prairie View (0-1) at De Soto (1-0)

Last week’s results: Prairie View lost to Central Heights, 14-0; De Soto beat Osawatomie, 21-8

Last year’s meeting: De Soto won, 34-0

Quick hits: De Soto opened defense of its Frontier League Small 5 title in strong fashion last week, scoring via the running game, the passing game and special teams. The Wildcats will look for continued growth out of quarterback Jake Morse, who was 7-of-10 for 107 yards and touchdown in Week 1, as well as another strong defensive effort against a Prairie View offense that came up empty on opening night.

Osawatomie (0-1) at Eudora (1-0)

Last week’s results: Osawatomie lost to De Soto, 21-8; Eudora beat Wellsville, 12-6

Last year’s meeting: Osawatomie won, 38-17

Quick hits: Eudora will be at home for the second straight week, a nice benefit given the Cardinals will be looking to avenge of the few blemishes on last year’s slate. While the defense and special teams were solid in its season-opening win, Eudora must find a way to jump-start an offense that was plagued by turnovers and scored just once – on a 3-yard drive following a lengthy punt return.

Area game of the week

What: Paola at Baldwin

When: 7 tonight

Where: Liston Stadium

Last year: Baldwin won, 28-14

McLouth (1-0) at Wathena (0-1)

Last week’s results: McLouth beat Horton, 51-0; Wathena lost to Jackson Heights, 20-0

Last year’s meeting: McLouth won, 13-12

Quick hits: After several down years, McLouth will be looking for its second straight 2-0 start after a commanding victory in the season opener. Expect the Bulldogs to keep feeding senior tailback Kevin Stewart, who racked up 204 yards and five touchdowns against Horton. The McLouth defense will also be looking to extend its shutout streak against a Wathena squad that failed to reach the end zone in its opener.

Mill Valley (0-1) at Lansing (1-0)

Last week’s results: Mill Valley lost to Kansas City Turner, 26-6; Lansing beat Tonganoxie, 14-10

Last year’s meeting: Mill Valley won, 42-13

Quick hits: Last season, Mill Valley responded from a tough overtime loss to Turner in Week 1 with a resounding victory at home against Lansing. So how will the Jaguars respond on the road after a lopsided loss at home in this year’s opener? To be successful, Mill Valley must solve a Lansing defense that shut down Tonganoxie’s vaunted running game last week.

Jefferson County North (0-1) at Oskaloosa (0-1)

Last week’s results: Jefferson County North lost 51-0 to Pleasant Ridge; Oskaloosa lost to Troy, 33-7

Last year’s meeting: Jefferson County North won, 67-12

Quick hits: Despite last week’s loss, Brad Reed’s first game at the Oskaloosa helm marked a drastic improvement over last season’s opening setback to Troy. The Bears will look for another strong effort out of its sophomore-laden roster against a Jefferson County North squad that owned last year’s meeting but suffered its own major setback against Pleasant Ridge in Week 1.

Ottawa (1-0) at Kansas City Turner (1-0)

Last week’s results: Ottawa beat Spring Hill, 35-6; Kansas City Turner beat Mill Valley, 26-6

Last year’s meeting: Ottawa won, 19-18 in overtime

Quick hits: In one of just three battles of unbeatens involving area teams, Ottawa will look to stay that way behind a strong running game that saw Aaron Douglas rush for 90 yards and three touchdowns in the opener. The Cyclones will also need another strong defensive effort to slow down a Turner offense that enjoyed a successful debut last week.

Perry-Lecompton (1-0) at Basehor-Linwood (1-0)

Last week’s results: Perry-Lecompton beat Immaculata, 49-0; Basehor-Linwood beat Bonner Springs 17-16

Last year’s meeting: Basehor-Linwood won, 25-6

Quick hits: After winning in dominating fashion on the road last week, Perry-Lecompton will again hit the road in a battle of Week 1 unbeatens. The Kaws will be looking for another balanced offensive effort that saw tailback Cory McPherson rack up 128 yards of total offense and quarterback David Foltz throw for a pair of scores against Immaculata.

Leavenworth Immaculata (0-1) at Santa Fe Trail (0-1)

Last week’s results: Immaculata lost to Perry-Lecompton, 49-0; Santa Fe Trail lost to Kansas City Piper, 28-21

Last year’s meeting: Santa Fe Trail won, 14-7

Quick hits: Santa Fe Trail’s preseason concerns about offensive consistency weren’t the problem in Week 1. Instead, the Chargers had a tough time corralling Piper quarterback Beau Beashore, who threw for over 200 yards. Santa Fe Trail will try to rebound against an Immaculata squad that couldn’t find the end zone last week.

Tonganoxie (0-1) at Kansas City Ward (0-1)

Last week’s results: Tonganoxie lost to Lansing, 14-10; Kansas City Ward lost to Roeland Park Miege, 36-7

Last year’s meeting: Tonganoxie won, 13-6

Quick hits: Tonganoxie showed a penchant for winning tight games early in the 2004 season, including a seven-point win over Ward in Week 2. The Chieftains lost a tough one to Lansing to open 2005, and must find a way to get their run-heavy offense in gear against Ward squad that never had an answer for Miege on opening night.
