Police plan sobriety checkpoint Friday night

Lawrence Police plan a sobriety checkpoint and city-wide “saturation patrol” Friday night between 5 p.m. and 2 a.m.

It will be the second consecutive week for the special patrol.

Last Friday, police made 26 traffic stops and issued 10 tickets during a city-wide patrol from 5 p.m. to 10 a.m.

Between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., they held a DUI checkpoint in the 1800 block of Kentucky Street. They checked 200 cars and arrested four people for drunk driving and one person for drug possession.

They also found six minors in possession of alcohol and made nine other arrests for things including curfew violations and outstanding arrest warrants.
