Jet crashes, killing at least 60 people

? An Indonesian jetliner crashed in a residential neighborhood in the city of Medan shortly after takeoff today and burst into flames, killing at least 60 people, a doctor said.

Syahrial Anas, a doctor who was overseeing the removal of bodies at the crash site, said at least 60 people were killed. The country’s transport minister said 109 people were on board the plane.

“We’re having a hard time getting to the bodies, because of the heat,” Anas told The Associated Press.

The airport in Medan, the largest city on Sumatra island, is close to the center of town and surrounded by densely populated residential areas.
