Leaders are needed for a Cub Scout Pack serving low income youths in Douglas County. The pack meets two times per month. Immediate volunteer needs

¢ Small World is a nonprofit, cooperative program whose mission is to help international women and their children adjust to the Lawrence community by improving their English skills, meeting new people and forming friendships that span cultures and languages. The program seeks women to serve as volunteer English tutors for adults and as classroom assistants in the preschool program. Tutors will work one-on-one with low- and introductory-level English students. There is no academic requirement for volunteer tutors, but they must have native-English speaking abilities. Classroom assistants will work with children ages infant to 6 years old, two mornings per week at the Small World program. For more information, call Kathy Mulinazzi at 841-3645.

¢ Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County is looking for volunteers who want to help make a difference in the life of a child. Volunteers spend 30 minutes to four hours one time per week with a child, depending on the program in which they are enrolled. This opportunity is available to individuals, couples and families. Volunteers need to be at least 16 years of age, pass background checks, go through a screening interview and be willing to commit to the program for a minimum of one year. ¢ Brandon Woods Retirement Community needs volunteers to fill the following positions: computer assistant, piano player and bingo caller. The computer assistant position only requires basic computer skills and excellent people skills. Volunteers must be willing to commit two to three hours a week to helping residents maneuver the Internet and provide basic computer assistance in the assisted living and independent living neighborhoods. Additionally, Brandon Woods is looking for a piano player who is able to play old-time music either just before lunch at 11 a.m. or before supper at 4 p.m., one to two times weekly. A bingo caller is also needed to set up and call games at 2:30 p.m. every other Saturday. Individuals interested in volunteering for Brandon Woods should contact Tami Clark at 838-8000.
