Logan Marienau, 16, received Boy Scouting’s highest honor of Eagle Scout during a ceremony Aug. 13 at the Dole Institute of Politics. Marienau is a member of Troop 55, chartered to Westside Presbyterian Church.

Logan started Cub Scouting with Pack 3059, chartered to First Presbyterian Church. He completed the Cub and Webelos programs and received his Arrow of Light.

He joined Troop 55 in 2000 and served in several leadership positions, including quartermaster, scribe, patrol leader, troop guide and assistant senior patrol leader. He has earned 26 merit badges, the mile swim patch and the junior leader training certificate.

Logan is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow honor camping program and performed in several ceremonial teams. He is a warrior with the Tribe of Mic-O-Say at Bartle Scout Reservation, Osceola Mo. Logan went to the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation from 2000-2004. He participated in high adventure at Sea Base in Florida in 2003. He has attended backpacking adventure trips in the Richland Creek wilderness area in Arkansas, Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma, Rawah wilderness area in Colorado and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

Marienau

Logan’s Eagle project was designing and creating a 16-by-33-foot landscape project at the southeast corner of Schwegler School.

Logan is a junior at Lawrence High School and is a member of the soccer team. He plays the trombone in the marching band. He is the son of Tony and Laurie Marienau, Lawrence.

¢ Scouts and leaders from Troop 65, chartered to the Baldwin Rotary Club, participated in a 70-mile high adventure backpacking expedition at Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, N.M., in late July and early August. During the 10-day hike, they climbed Mount Philips and the Tooth of Time, took part in fly fishing, black power rifle shooting, horseback riding, horseshoe pitching, blacksmithing and homesteading. Each member carried between 45 and 60 pounds of gear, food and water. The crew covered between four miles and 10 miles per day, depending on the terrain. At the end of the trek, they were given “la Docena Aventurados” award, which is new this year at Philmont.

Scouts who participated were: Alex Coffey, David Cook, Justin Cook, David Garrison, Jake Hogsett, Kirsten Shuck, Mark Westgate and Evan Wilson. They were accompanied by adult leaders Mark Shuck and Tom Wilson.
