Slight chance of showers this morning

Scattered showers and thunderstorms were passing through northeast Kansas this morning, said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

“It looks like most of us stay dry, but we can’t rule out the chance for a morning shower,” Sayers said. “Odds are we stay dry here in Lawrence, Tonganoxie and Piper.”

Most of the storms were traveling along the Kansas-Nebraska state line, with some sweeping through northern Leavenworth County, Sayers said.

“Once that morning rain kicks on out of here, I think we see sunshine for the rest of the afternoon,” Sayers said.

At 7 a.m. today, weather readings at Lawrence Municipal Airport showed the temperature was 67 degrees, the humidity was 94 percent and winds were from the northwest at 5 mph.

The temperatures will rise today into the 80s, reaching a high of 84 by late this afternoon, with southeast winds 3 to 8 mph, Sayers said.

“This evening for high school football, it looks like we’ll be fine,” he said.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 65 degrees by early Saturday morning, he said.

“There is a very slight chance for an isolated storm tonight into the early morning,” he said.

But skies should clear out and Saturday’s high will climb to 86 degrees in the afternoon, with partly cloudy skies, Sayers said.

“If you have outdoor plans in the afternoon, you should be fine,” Sayers said.

Sunday’s temperature will start at 65 degrees in the morning and climb to 86 in the afternoon under partly cloudy skies.
