Possible hazing incident investigated

Officials from the Sigma Nu Fraternity’s national headquarters were in town over the weekend to investigate a possible hazing allegation at the fraternity’s Kansas University chapter, according to Interfraternity Council President Scott Shorten.

Shorten said he was told the allegation originated within the KU chapter. Officials from the Sigma Nu national headquarters are expected to announce a decision regarding their investigation soon, Shorten said.

The national chapter and KU have jurisdiction over hazing. The university previously placed the Sigma Nu house on probation in 2003 when a student suffered a head injury during a ritual in which five fraternity members threw pledges into the air.
