Red Cross to offer classes for hurricane relief volunteers

In response to a high number of local residents looking to volunteer for Hurricane Katrina relief, the Douglas County chapter of the American Red Cross will conduct special training classes later this month.

An introduction to disaster training course is set for next Wednesday, Sept. 7. The course on mass care is planned for Sept. 12. Both classes run from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the United Way building, 2518 Ridge Court.

Volunteers must make a three-week commitment and have CPR and first-aid certification.
