Kansas City company to close Iowa bakery

Interstate Bakeries Corp. said Wednesday it was closing its bakery in Davenport, Iowa, part of its nationwide effort to streamline operations in a bid to emerge from bankruptcy.

The Kansas City, Mo.-based company, which makes iconic brands Wonder Bread and Hostess Twinkies, said the closing would affect 150 employees with production being shifted to other bakeries in the company’s north-central region. Distribution of products should be unaffected, the company said.

The closing should be completed by Nov. 4, assuming approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Kansas City, the company said.
