Clear skies expected this evening

Headed out to tonight’s Free State High School football game? You can expect clear skies, says Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

At the 7 p.m. kickoff at Haskell Stadium, the temperature will be 80 degrees with light and variable winds, Sayers said. (See pre-game story.)

“We’ll have mostly sunny skies,” he said.

Earlier today, a line of thunderstorms rumbled through Lawrence, bringing about 0.14 of an inch of rainfall. Skies were clearing out this afternoon.

At 4 p.m. today at Lawrence Municipal Airport, the temperature was 78 degrees, the humidity was 58 percent and winds were from the west at 3 mph.

Today’s high is expected to climb to 83 degrees by late afternoon. Winds will be from the north at 3 to 8 mph. The average high temperature for this dates is 86 degrees.

Overnight, skies will be clear and the temperature will drop to 57 degrees by early Friday morning. There is a slight chance for thunderstorms in the morning, he said.

Friday afternoon will be partly cloudy, with the high reaching 84 degrees.

Saturday’s morning low will be 62 degrees. The temperature will climb to a high of 87 degrees by late Saturday afternoon.
