Eagles headed to state

? The Veritas Christian football team bounced back from back-to-back losses in convincing fashion Friday night, dominating on both sides of the ball to earn a 66-18 victory over Hamilton in a game shortened by the 45-point rule.

The Eagles (6-2) pushed across their final points on a 29-yard touchdown run by Michael Humphrey, capping a 34-0 advantage in the second half and ending the contest with 1:33 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Casey Woods completed 12 of 18 passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns, while running back Jesse Schultz rushed 18 times for 137 yards and two scores. Schultz also caught two touchdown passes.

“After having lost the last couple of weeks, this is a real confidence builder for us,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “I thought we played well on both sides of the ball.”

The Eagles now head into the four-team Kansas Christian Athletic Assn. playoffs, where they will face Wichita Word of Life at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Wichita.
