Henrickson lands three more

Kansas University women’s basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson continues to dazzle on the recruiting trail.

Henrickson, who this past offseason landed three commitments, has landed three more commitments from high school seniors in the past couple of weeks.

They are: Kelly Kohn, 5-foot-9, guard, Adrian, Mich.; LaChelda Jacobs, 5-10, guard, Mansfield, Texas; and Porscha Weddington, 6-1, center, Temple, Texas.

Kohn, who was the only of the three to attend Late Night in the Phog, averages 24.1 points a game for Adrian High, which already has played 15 games.

Kohn chose KU over New Mexico, Pittsburgh, Bowling Green and Louisville.

“She felt after meeting with the players and coaching staff this was the team that was going to be able to make it the farthest in the conference and national championship (race),” said Kohn’s mother, Judy. “She felt it’s her best chance to be part of something like that.”

The three athletes who gave earlier commitments (Danielle McCray, 5-10, Olathe East; Lindsay Ballweg, 5-10, Overland Park Aquinas; and Sade Morris, 6-0, Norman, Okla.) all attended Late Night.

“Bonnie was trying to develop a unity and team thing right there. Those five or six will be there the next four years,” Judy Kohn said.

Jacobs is a top-30 senior in Texas. She is from Summitt High, the same school as Erin Grant of Texas Tech. Jacobs plays for DFW Elite AAU.

Weddington, a post player, is ranked even higher – she is a top 20 senior in Texas.

Her father, Mike, played football for Oklahoma and the Green Bay Packers.
